This course offers clinicians an opportunity to gain knowledge in ultrasound and its use in the supervision of early pregnancy. This course will train clinicians to understand the indications for scans, safely and efficiently perform first-trimester scans, interpret clinically relevant scan findings, and know when to refer for further management.
Ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology is quintessential in the management of patients. Ultrasound skills are important not only for specialists but also for OBGYN trainees or doctors who wish to work with patients in their early pregnancy, especially those who wish to provide point of care ultrasonographic evaluation. Ultrasound knowledge is vital for doing and interpreting early pregnancy scans.
The first-trimester ultrasound course is developed for clinicians who provide antenatal care for women in early pregnancy. It is designed to accommodate clinicians with busy schedules and is flexible to their availability and educational requirements. Since this is an online course that can be taken at the student’s convenience, the contents can be studied from the comfort of your own space while still acquiring high quality and the most up-to-date information on the subject.
The students will learn the basics of ultrasound by understanding machine settings, the terminology used for probe maneuvers, and anatomical planes. The course will provide knowledge on normal and abnormal early pregnancy development, dating in pregnancy, detecting singleton vs multiple pregnancies, detecting first-trimester aneuploidy, and first-trimester anomalies etc., This course will assist doctors in becoming knowledgeable ultrasound practitioners and equip them with skills essential to perform first-trimester USG with a high level of competency.
We offer hands-on training for the Transabdominal Obstetric Ultrasound Module using our advanced VirtaMed simulators. Students will learn to conduct cases covering diverse fetal positions, placenta locations, and Doppler imaging techniques. The module includes various fetal abnormalities such as Down syndrome, anencephaly, spina bifida, placenta previa, and bilateral renal agenesis. Our simulator allows trainees to freely manipulate the transducer across the abdomen for optimal visualization of the fetus.
• Mastering the systematic second-trimester ultrasound examination through the 20+2 approach.
• Recognizing normal ultrasound appearances in each plane.
• Identifying and diagnosing vascular complications utilizing Doppler imaging.
• Practicing accurate caliper placement for gestational age measurements.
The course aims to equip participants with the skills to perform accurate gestational age assessments, identify common abnormalities during the first trimester, and understand the significance of early ultrasound findings. Additionally, it covers interpreting ultrasound images and applying the knowledge in clinical settings.
This course enhances professional development by providing a comprehensive understanding of first-trimester ultrasound techniques and their clinical applications. Mentees will gain proficiency in recognizing normal and abnormal findings, enabling them to contribute effectively to patient care and diagnostic decision-making.
While there may not be stern prerequisites, a basic understanding of ultrasound principles and familiarity with obstetric terminology can be beneficial. Students with a background in obstetrics, gynaecology, radiology, or related fields will find the course content more accessible. However, the course is designed to accommodate learners at various levels of expertise.
The course is regularly updated to include the latest advancements and research in the field of first-trimester ultrasound. Participants will have access to updated study material, case studies, and practical applications of emerging technologies. The aim is to ensure that the course content reflects the most recent developments in this rapidly evolving field.
